
NEWPORT, NC – Bobby Watson’s Carteret Speedway honored its 2024 champions at an
awards ceremony at The Silo’s of Newport on Saturday, while also gearing up for the 2025
season.
The second and third place points finishers were also honored, along with a handful of other
award recipients.
The 2024 champions were: Kinston’s Gator Williams (Charger), Hubert’s Tyler Smith
(Street Stock), Jacksonville’s Travis Miller (Mini Stock), Maysville’s Logan McCallister (U-CAR), Swansboro’s Scotty Benford (Legend Car), Richlands’ Charlie Mercer (Bomber), Swansboro’s Keagan Abrams (Jr. Mini Cup) and Emerald Isle’s Rylan Speight (Bandolero).
Each of the champions were presented with a trophy, a custom-embroidered jacket from
Hoosier Racing, and additional hardware.
Emerald Isle’s Oliver Missner, who competed in the Legend Car division, took home Rookie of the Year honors.
The Bobby Watson Appreciation Award was presented to Joe Jolly, who has been helping out the track with improvements and repairs since Watson’s passing in 2018.
Logan McCallister was presented the Mark Watson Sportsmanship Award, named after the
track’s former competition director who passed away in 2021. (Mark Watson and Bobby Watson were unrelated.)
Bill Brown accepted a sponsorship appreciation award from Carteret Speedway on behalf of Islander Hotel & Suites Resort on Emerald Isle for their longtime support and track sponsorship.
Track owner Bob Lowery officially announced Travis Provost as Competition Director during the banquet. Provost heads up the Carolina Mini Stock Challenge touring series and has raced in Mini Stock competitions at the speedway.
With the banquet now complete, Bobby Watson’s Carteret Speedway now looks ahead to its
season opener on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
The season opening race, named JumpStart 2025, will feature Chargers, Street Stocks, Mini
Stocks, U-CARs, Bombers, Legend Cars, Bandoleros, and Jr. Mini Cups. The pre-race meet
and greet will take place at 1:00pm and the green flag will wave at 2:00pm.
