Super Cup Stock Car Series Makes First-Ever Visit to Carteret County Speedway June 6

SWANSBORO, NC — For the first time in history, the Super Cup Stock Car Series will make its way to Bobby Watson’s Carteret County Speedway & Entertainment Complex on Saturday, June 6th, bringing with it a unique blend of horsepower, strategy, veteran talent, and rising stars to the Crystal Coast.

Formed in 2007 by former Hooters Pro Cup Series official Joe Schmaling and an advisory committee, the Super Cup Stock Car Series was designed as an affordable alternative for racers looking to compete in full-bodied stock cars without the overwhelming costs seen in many upper-level divisions. That same year, the series hosted two exhibition events in North Carolina, laying the groundwork for what would become a respected touring series across the eastern United States.

Since its inception, the SCSCS has competed at 20 tracks across seven states, attracting drivers from New York and Pennsylvania west to Michigan and Indiana and throughout the Carolinas. Competitors pilot powerful 3,300-pound, 600-horsepower “Gen 4” style stock cars that deliver the sound, speed, and excitement fans crave.

One of the series’ defining features is its unique twin-race format paired with an emphasis on tire conservation and race strategy. Since 2015, the Super Cup Stock Car Series has utilized the American Racer tire compound, with teams required to complete both feature events using only the tires they qualify on. With one race often contested during daylight hours and the second under the lights, changing track conditions and smart race management frequently become deciding factors.

Over the years, the series has served as both a launching pad and a second home for racers from all backgrounds. Several competitors began their careers in karting before advancing into ARCA and NASCAR competition, while others brought years of experience from the NASCAR Cup Series, Xfinity Series, ARCA East, and ASA Late Model competition.

Notable alumni include:

• 2013 Champion Todd Peck, who made 48 combined starts in NASCAR’s O'Reilly and Truck Series

• 2022 Champion Jason Kitzmiller, a longtime ARCA Racing Series competitor

• Codie Rohrbaugh, the 2013 Rookie of the Year and five-time race winner who now owns a NASCAR Truck Series team featuring driver Grant Enfinger

  
  

Heading into Carteret County Speedway, the current championship battle is led by third-generation driver Chrissy Wallace, daughter of longtime NASCAR competitor Mike Wallace. Wallace enters the event carrying momentum and guidance from five-time NASCAR Cup Series winner Jeremy Mayfield, who himself is no stranger to Carteret County Speedway Victory Lane, owning two previous wins at the facility.

Mike Wallace also captured the most recent Super Cup event at Hickory Motor Speedway in his series debut, adding even more intrigue to the June 6 showdown.

Among Chrissy Wallace’s closest challengers are Winston-Salem’s Damian Payton, a two-time series winner, along with West Virginia standouts Harvey Harrison and Brent Nelson, both former series champions. Notably, none of the top title contenders have previous starts at Carteret County Speedway, setting the stage for a highly competitive and unpredictable night of racing.

Following the 2024 season, Uniontown, Pennsylvania’s Bill Ashton officially took the reins of the Super Cup Stock Car Series. Ashton, a former Street Stock standout who earned Top Performing Rookie honors in 2014 before becoming a two-time winner, now leads the series into its next chapter.

Part of Ashton’s vision includes introducing the series to exciting new venues that provide both competitive racing and memorable experiences for teams and fans alike — making Carteret County Speedway a natural fit.

In addition to racing under the lights, teams, officials, and fans are expected to spend the weekend enjoying North Carolina’s beautiful Crystal Coast, making the June 6 event more than just a race — but a destination experience.

Fans can expect an unforgettable night of side-by-side action, roaring V8 engines, and first-time excitement as the Super Cup Stock Car Series officially debuts at Carteret County Speedway.
