Halloween Bash & Night of Destruction Makes History at Carteret County Speedway with First-Ever Demolition Derby
SWANSBORO, N.C. — Bobby Watson’s Carteret County Speedway delivered a night of Halloween excitement, unforgettable racing and history-making destruction on Saturday, October 24, as the ClarkCo Construction Halloween Bash & Night of Destruction brought fans together for an evening unlike any other at America’s Nicest Short Track.
The event featured competitive racing, Halloween festivities and a milestone for the speedway — its first-ever demolition derby on the asphalt racing surface.
From thrilling finishes to twisted metal, the night provided plenty of entertainment for spectators of all ages.
Chase Fields Makes History in Carteret’s First Demolition Derby
The biggest milestone of the evening came when Carteret County Speedway hosted its first-ever demolition derby, bringing an entirely different form of motorsports competition to the facility’s asphalt surface.
When the dust — or rather, tire smoke — settled, Chase Fields of Goldsboro, North Carolina, emerged victorious, earning his place in speedway history as the winner of its inaugural demolition derby.
Fields, who had celebrated his 29th birthday just the day before, was thrilled with the experience.
“It was really good. I mean, it was the first time on asphalt. Really amazing,” Fields said in victory lane.
While Fields and his team were no strangers to demolition derby competition, competing on asphalt presented an entirely new challenge. The unusual surface didn’t stop them from proving they could handle whatever conditions came their way.
“We proved our point tonight that we can run on anything we want,” Fields said.
The victory was also a family affair. Fields revealed that fellow competitors Gary Williams and Little Ray Rhodes are his cousins, adding an entertaining family rivalry to the evening’s competition.
Fields credited his team, his fiancé and his supporters for making the victory possible, giving special recognition to AJ for sponsoring his demolition derby car.
His victory marked a memorable first for Carteret County Speedway and demonstrated that the facility’s asphalt oval can provide an exciting setting for more than traditional short-track racing.
Webb Holds Off the Competition in Champ Karts
The Champ Kart division delivered one of the evening’s exciting finishes, with Keith Webb holding off a determined challenge from Harry Artemisio and the No. 18 kart in the closing laps.
As the field tightened up, Webb found himself under increasing pressure but managed to keep his competitors behind him to secure the victory.
“It’s starting to get a little tight at the end,” Webb said following the race. “I think we went a little too far with the tires, but it all worked out.”
Webb thanked his family, supporters and fellow competitors while expressing appreciation for the clean racing and the fans who came out to enjoy the show.
Looking toward next season, Webb was optimistic about the continued growth of Champ Kart racing and the possibility of competing at multiple tracks.
“I’m excited to see it,” Webb said, adding that he hopes the division will return to Carteret County Speedway with a strong field of drivers.
Andrew Watson Masters Reverse-Direction Challenge for First Carteret Victory
Andrew Watson has become no stranger to victory lane, but Saturday night’s Any Car competition presented a challenge unlike his usual winning performances.
With an inverted format and the unusual experience of racing around the speedway in the opposite direction, Watson had to adjust his approach before finding his rhythm.
“Definitely driving around that backwards way, that was very interesting,” Watson said. “But about halfway through, I was like, I’m starting to get the hang of this.”
Once Watson found his comfort zone, he worked his way to the front and claimed a victory that carried special significance.
“This is my first win at Carteret. This one means a lot,” Watson said.
Despite his extensive success at other tracks, earning his first Carteret County Speedway victory made the night particularly memorable.
Watson thanked the fans, friends and supporters who made the trip to cheer him on.
Harry Artemisio Collects Two Runner-Up Finishes
While Harry Artemisio came up just short of victory lane, he still enjoyed an impressive evening with back-to-back second-place finishes.
Artemisio, who has enjoyed a successful 2026 season at Carteret County Speedway, showed his versatility by competing at the front of the field in two very different races.
Reflecting on his pair of runner-up performances, Artemisio joked, “I feel like Christopher Bell right this second.”
He credited Watson for being a difficult competitor to beat and acknowledged that the reverse-direction format created an interesting challenge.
“Andrew is really, really tough to beat. He’s got a really fast car,” Artemisio said. “It was a fun race. I like that we turned around. I felt like my car handled good.”
Artemisio also expressed appreciation to his sponsors, family, track officials and fans for their continued support.
Night of Destruction Brings More Winners and Wild Action
The demolition derby wasn’t the only attraction delivering excitement.
The Night of Destruction program featured additional competition, with Juan Mejia, Smitty and Brady Price joining the evening’s list of winners.
The unconventional events offered fans a change of pace from traditional short-track racing, with unpredictable action and plenty of entertainment.
Together, the competition highlighted the variety of motorsports experiences that have made Carteret County Speedway a destination for special events along the Crystal Coast.
Halloween Festivities Add to the Family Fun
Beyond the racing and destruction, Halloween festivities brought a festive atmosphere to the speedway.
Trunk-or-treat activities, costumes and family entertainment gave young fans an opportunity to enjoy Halloween traditions alongside the excitement of motorsports.
The event also featured the World’s Largest Yard Sale and Car Show, adding to the activities available throughout the day.
A Historic Night at America’s Nicest Short Track
With Chase Fields making history in the speedway’s first demolition derby, Keith Webb capturing the Champ Kart victory, Andrew Watson earning his first Carteret win, and Juan Mejia, Smitty and Brady Price claiming Night of Destruction honors, the Halloween Bash delivered an unforgettable combination of racing and entertainment.
More importantly, the event demonstrated the versatility of Carteret County Speedway, where traditional asphalt racing and unconventional motorsports events can share the spotlight.
For fans who came to see fast cars, celebrate Halloween or witness the speedway’s first-ever demolition derby, the evening offered something special.
One thing is certain: Carteret County Speedway’s first demolition derby gave fans a new chapter in the track’s history — and plenty of twisted metal to remember it by.
