Rusty Daniels victorious in Bobby Watson Memorial

PELETIER, NC – Rusty Daniels, Scotty Benford and Sammy Pacitti continued their dominant seasons at Bobby Watson’s Carteret County Speedway on Saturday night in the Bobby Watson Memorial.

In what has been a familiar story, Daniels started on the pole and led wire-to-wire in the 40-lap Charger feature to score the victory.  The win was his 10th of the season at Carteret, keeping his perfect season intact coming.

After the race Daniels talked about what it meant to win in a race honoring the memory of the late Bobby Watson, the visionary behind Carteret County Speedway who passed away in 2018.

“It means a lot to this area, east of I-95,” Daniels said in victory lane.  “There are no racecars or racetracks really, so for him to build a track and hope everybody comes, he did a very good job.  He was a nice guy and we enjoyed being around him.”

Daniels is poised to lock up the Charger division championship on Saturday, November 1, 2025 after three straight years of frustration at Coastal Plains Raceway.

“It will be exciting,” Daniels stated.  “I feel like we got hooded out of two or three at Coastal Plains.  We’re excited to get one more to put in the collection and see what we can do from next year.”

Scotty Benford, who finished second to Daniels in Charger competition, scored his 12th win of the season in the Legend Car division.

“We rushed the car a little bit during the week,” Benford said.  “It was more of a last-minute thing.  We’re very thankful Frank Pass let us drive this car.  This morning, we were good, and throughout the day, we changed up a little bit and we knew they were going to be right there with us.  It’s not my car, but we made it work.”

Benford has mathematically clinched the Legends division championship and is now set to compete in the INEX Legend Car Asphalt Nationals at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on October 24-25.

Sammy Pacitti once again dominated in the Down East Homes Bomber division to score his ninth win of the season.  Zac Reimer took the win in the Battlefield Tire Pros Mini Stock class, and took the points lead from his wife, Abby Jolly.  Gator Williams, who finished third in Chargers, was the overall winner in the Virginia Vintage Racers feature while Susan Kimel won in Sportsman, and in East Coast Flathead Fords, Donovan Freeman took the overall victory with Greg Vaughan winning in Vintage Modified.

Bobby Watson’s Carteret County Speedway roars back into action next Saturday, October 25, with the Halloween Bash and Night of Destruction, which also features costume contests for all age groups.
