Legends Championship Battle Goes Down to the Wire at Carteret Speedway

PELETIER, NC - With just two races remaining in the 2026 Carteret Speedway season, the battle for the Legends Division Championship couldn’t be any tighter. Every lap, every position, and every point will matter as some of the area’s best young racers prepare for an all-out championship battle!
Leading the standings is Keagan Abrams of Swansboro with 34 points, but his advantage is anything but comfortable. Sitting just four points behind are not one—but two championship contenders.
Defending Carteret Speedway Track Champion Scotty Benford, also of Swansboro, is right where champions love to be—within striking distance. Benford knows what it takes to win championships, and with two races left, experience could prove to be the deciding factor as he looks to defend his title.
Sharing second place with Benford is Michael Bivens of Hubert. Bivens has been a consistent driver all season and has quietly positioned himself as a legitimate championship threat. One strong night could completely reshuffle the standings.
Just six points off the lead is Oliver Missner of Emerald Isle. Missner has shown the speed to run with the front of the field all season and remains well within striking distance. With two races left, he still has every opportunity to make a championship run.
Further back, Carsyn Gillikin of Newport sits fifth, followed by Haiden Thomas of Greenville and Brody Sciortino of New Bern. While the championship mountain has become much steeper for those drivers, racing has a way of producing the unexpected. Mechanical issues, cautions, or a late-race battle could instantly change the championship picture.
The biggest storyline heading into the season’s final stretch is simple: Can Keagan Abrams hold off the defending champion, or will Scotty Benford make another late-season charge to retain his crown? And don’t overlook Michael Bivens or Oliver Missner, who are both close enough to capitalize on any opportunity.
With so little separating the top four drivers, fans can expect every restart, every pass, and every checkered flag to carry championship implications.
One thing is certain—the Legends Division championship is far from decided. When the green flag drops over the final two events of the season, there will be no room for mistakes. The road to the Carteret Speedway championship will be earned one lap at a time, and by season’s end, only one driver will have the honor of being crowned the 2026 Carteret Speedway Legends Track Champion.
