Peletier, NC — Carteret County Speedway and Entertainment Complex’s mission has long extended beyond motorsports, serving as a gathering place where community takes center stage. That vision came to life this past weekend during the inaugural Rise of the Flower Moon Powwow & Car Show, an event that delivered a meaningful blend of culture, connection, and celebration across the Crystal Coast.
Following a weather-related reschedule, expectations were uncertain. What unfolded, however, was a remarkable show of support, as the community turned out in force—embracing the event with enthusiasm and creating an atmosphere defined by warmth, inclusivity, and genuine community spirit.
The powwow was the true heart and highlight of the day. From the powerful Grand Entry to the steady rhythm of the drums and the beauty of traditional dancing, the energy throughout the speedway was deeply moving. It created an atmosphere that was not only engaging, but meaningful—offering a space for connection, education, and shared appreciation of culture and tradition. Native American vendors further enriched the experience, offering authentic food and handcrafted goods that added depth and authenticity to the event. The powwow was proudly hosted by the Tuscarora Indians of Kahtenuaka Territories (TIOKT) while remaining open and welcoming to all who wished to attend and take part.
A powwow is a traditional Native American gathering centered on community, culture, and heritage—bringing people together through song, dance, drumming, art, and storytelling. It serves as both a celebration and a way to honor traditions while welcoming others to learn, observe, and share in the experience.
Complementing the day’s cultural celebration, the classic car show added another dynamic layer, featuring an impressive 59 entries. From meticulously restored classics to unique custom builds, each vehicle brought its own story—drawing in car enthusiasts and families alike and rounding out a full day of activity.
As a first-year event, the Rise of the Flower Moon exceeded expectations, reinforcing the importance of creating spaces where diverse experiences can come together. From the rhythm of the drums to the shine of classic cars, the event stood as a true celebration of unity, tradition, and community pride.
Organizers extend their sincere gratitude to all who attended, participated, volunteered, and supported the event. Their collective enthusiasm and belief in the vision made the day possible and laid a strong foundation for continued growth in the years ahead.
Looking ahead, Carteret County Speedway will continue its commitment to community-centered events. Upcoming highlights include a National Day of Prayer gathering on Thursday, May 7, followed by the Islander Spring Showdown on Saturday, May 9, featuring the highly anticipated Charger Division under the lights—promising another exciting weekend at the track.
