Bobby Watson’s Carteret County Speedway has put together what promises to be the most exciting and eclectic season in the history of America’s Nicest Short Track and it all starts Sunday at 2 O’Clock.
The Solid Rock Carriers Jumpstart 165 will feature the Solid Rock Late Models including defending champion Dylan Newsome but that’s just the start to “Jumpstart” Sunday. The Legends, Bombers, Mini Stocks, Junior Mini Cups, and Bandoleros will join the fun.
The off-season has been a time of preparation for the staff of Carteret Speedway who took driver input and instituted several changes and upgrades to enhance the 2023 racing experience for fans and drivers.
The most noticeable change might well be the newly constructed spotters tower, the tallest structure in the pits, designed to provide spotters with an unobstructed view of the entire track. “The tower will make racing safer for everyone as spotters guide their respective drivers,” said CCS owner Bob Lowery.
Improved safety was also the reason the pit entry onto the track has been moved from Turn-2 to further down the backstretch. The move not only allows drivers a safer re-entry into a race but changed the Turn-2 configuration creating more passing opportunities. Drivers can now hug the wall into Turn-2, returning the track to its original design.
Joining Carteret Speedway this year is Dean Gokel, Chief of Technical Inspection. Gokel worked with several NASCAR owners and drivers and brings his vast experience to CCS. “My focus is safety and fairness for each driver,” says Gokel.
One thing that did not change for 2023 is the price of admission. Once again, as it has year after year, Carteret County Speedway held tight on an adult admission fee of $15.00 while children 10 and under are admitted free. In addition, while many tracks recognize the military with a special military night, every race night will be military appreciation night in 2023. All active and retired military with ID will be admitted for $10.00, a 33% discount! On any given race night 50 American Flags fly over Carteret Speedway in tribute to those who maintain our freedom. Please accept the discount as a token of our admiration and appreciation.
Meanwhile, thanks to Bill Brown, owner of The Islander Hotel and Resort, CCS fans can choose the VIP treatment in the newly branded Islander Skybox. Located in Turn-4 you can watch the race in climate-controlled comfort or from the observation deck both of which provide wonderful views of the entire track. As a VIP guest, you’ll have access to the pit area, VIP parking, drink vouchers, and more. For pricing and more information go to carteretspeedway.com.
The changes and additions are great but honestly, the 2023 schedule is what makes everything work. Classic races like the Davey Allison Memorial, Bobby Watson Memorial, The Carolina Pro Late Model and Modifieds, Southern Super Series, Bowman Gray Stars, Carolina Mini Stock Nationals, and of course the $10,000 to-win Race of Champions.
In addition, CCS 2023 will feature Monster Trucks, Night of Destruction, and the Crystal Coast Truck Fest along with a pair of concerts to make this a season to remember and it all starts Sunday at 2 pm.
