A beautiful Mother’s Day weekend Saturday Night greeted a great crowd at Bobby Watson’s
Carteret County Speedway for the Croatan Spring Jam.
After the patriotic pre-race festivities, the Mini Stocks/U-Car divisions took to the track. As it
has been all season, Brandon Clements was the winner. This was his 2nd in a row and he was not done yet. Travis Miller came home in 2nd place and Zac Reimer was 3rd.
Next up was the first of two Limited Late Model features and what was probably one of the most popular wins in a long time, Kenneth Mercer took his first win in 4 years. "Stroker Ace" dedicated the win to his Mom, who was in Victory Lane, while his wife Donna smiled through tears. Holden Haddock finished 2nd and another great story was Matthew Gurganus who ended up 3rd and gave his younger brother Colby a nice birthday present.
The Bomber race featured great competition and very exciting racing through lap traffic, but again it was Andrew Jackson taking the win over a fast-closing and dead-last starter, Duane Walker. Shawn Wilson was 3rd and he dedicated his finish to his friend who recently had a house fire.
The Legends took to the track and Brenton Irving secured his second win of the season after an early race battle with Charlie Beals. A great battle for 2nd later in the race was won by Scotty Benford, edging out Beals.
During intermission, some lucky Mothers took to the race track and showed off their skills
much to the delight of the fans.
The Mini Stocks were back on the track for their 2nd race and we have seen this movie before with Brandon Clements getting the sweep of the night. Travis Miller was 2nd and Travis Provost rounded the top three.
Late Model Feature #2 was won by pole sitter Ethan Johnson, who had battery issues in race one. He passed Kenneth Mercer on lap #23 to take the win. Holden Haddock was 3rd.
The Junior Mini Cups ran 15 laps and after a great battle that saw contact and both spin and come back through the field, Landon Strickland edged Michael Bivens and Anthony Ventresca for the win.
The next race will be Memorial Day weekend Sunday, May 28th, featuring the Southern Ground Pounders, Limited Late Models, and much more. The green flag will wave at 6 pm for the Memorial Day Classic.
