Fryar Snags Pole For 2nd Annual Race of Champions

Intense qualifying dominated Friday’s action at Bobby Watson’s Carteret County Speedway as the table was set for Saturday’s $50,000 Solid Rock Carriers Race of Champions with the green flag dropping at 2pm.

The Solid Rock Carriers Late Model Stocks will be up first running 150 laps with $10,000 to the winner. Jared Fryer was the pole qualifier setting a torrid pace of 16.164 seconds. Fryer will be joined on the front row by Jacob Heafner who posted a 16.228, a mere .002 seconds faster than third place qualifier Brandon Clements.

The Late Model Qualifying was so competitive, every car in the field posted a qualifying time in the 16-second bracket setting the stage for what’s to come tomorrow for 150 grueling laps.

Ryan Joyner won the pole for Saturday’s 75 lap, $2500 Limited Late Model race, posting a 16.677. Teen driver Tristan McKee with a 16.712 gave Joyner some food for thought overnight as McKee gave notice that while he might not even have his driver’s license yet, he’s come to play. McKee by the way will do double duty Saturday racing both Late and Limited Late Divisions. Eric Winslow qualified third in the Limited Late Models with a 16.722. The Limited Late Model winner will earn $2500.

The Legends also put on a fantastic qualifying show with all but one car posting laps under 19 seconds. Leading the way and grabbing the pole for Saturday’s 50 lap race of champions was George Phillips whose 18.223 edged Austin Thompson’s time of 18.268. Charlie Beals was third at 18.345.

Saturday’s Legends race winner will pocket $2500 with an additional $500 to the winner if they also raced in October’s Halloween Bash at Carteret Speedway.

The Bombers will compete for 25 laps on Saturday’s Solid Rock Carriers Race of Champions card and earning the pole position in Friday’s qualifying was Chris Kane with a lap of 19.649 seconds. Kane was the only Bomber driver to break the 20 second barrier. Cornell Williams finished second with a time of 20.095 with brian Gooden third at 20.596.

An exciting Friday of qualifying has set the stage for the final big event of the season at Carteret County Speedway, The Solid Rock Carriers Race of Champions. The green flag will drop at 2pm. Admission for adults is $20 with kids 10 under admitted free..
