SWANSBORO, NC – Carteret County Speedway is known for friendly faces, great atmosphere, and as America’s Nicest Short Track. On December 10th through December 11th, CCS will hold the biggest event in track history with the introduction of the Solid Rock Carriers Race of Champions.
Headlining the Solid Rock Carriers Race of Champions will be the Late Models competing for a $10,000 payday. In addition to the hefty winner’s cut, if you start the main event, the least you’ll take home is $1,000. The top drivers from across the nation are expected to travel to the Emerald Coast for their share at a more than $30,000 purse.
In addition to the Late Models and continuing on with the biggest event in track history; The Legends will also race for a stout payday as well. The winner of the Legends Solid Rock Carriers Race of Champions main event will pocket $2,500 and the race will pay $200 to start.
“We always want to try and spread the wealth and show our appreciation to every driver that shows up to race.” said track owner Bob Lowery when talking about the $1,000 to start in the Late Models and the $200 to start in the Legends. “We want everyone that shows up to race to go home with some change in their pocket. That’s why we’re rolling with the unique purse that we’ve laid out.”
Solid Rock Carriers Race of Champions weekend will begin on Friday December 10th with open practice. In addition to the open practice we will also host our world famous party to get the weekend kicked off and for this event it’ll go by the name “Year End Bash.”
On track activity continues on Saturday December 11th with more practice. Then qualifying will take place for the Late Models and Legends followed by a last chance race for the Legends, if needed. An autograph session is scheduled for 12:15 with the green flag dropping at 1:00 for main events.
The Legends will battle for 50 laps and the Junior Mini Cup stars will compete as well with a large field expecting entries from as far as Florida. The Central Florida Mini Cup Series will be joining our track regulars for a special event highlighting the youth in our sport.
Pre-registration is open now for all drivers and if you pre-register before December 5th you’ll save 25% on your entry fee. Pre-registration is simple; Simply head to carteretspeedway.com, click on “Race of Champions” at the top of the page, then click the “Entry Form” button on the left side of the page. From there you’ll fill out your info and follow the instructions and you’re registered!
Late Model drivers are encouraged to register as soon as possible because due to the national tire shortage this race will be limited to 18 entries.
There are no gimmicks when it comes to the main event on Saturday for the Late Models. The race is 125 green flag laps. There will be a break at lap 60 for air pressure adjustments, tire swaps (no new tires changed), and suspension changes. Caution laps will not count. No tire changes. Just a good ole fashioned, Saturday afternoon, high stakes Late Model race is what’s laid out. The Legends will battle for 50 laps and the Junior Mini Cup stars will compete in a 20 lap feature.
With all of the excitement surrounding the event we will also be hosting a first ever event at Carteret County Speedway; Spectator Racing. This special event will allow our fans to compete on the track with their daily drivers. The format of this event will be bracket style racing with a one lap race in one on one, head to head competition with the winner moving on to the next round. We will continue with the bracket format until we reach the final two competitors. They will then line up and compete in a best two out of three, winner take all. The winner will take home a nice check for $300 if ten competitors register.
For those unable to attend, the event will be streamed live on Racing America powered by Speed51.tv. However, for those fans coming out to watch the action in person you’ll be treated to a great weekend of excitement. You can join us on Friday night in the grandstands for free. Saturday’s grandstand and suite ticket will only cost you $15 and an unopened toy for the biggest event in track history. An added bonus is that kids 10 and under are free. Santa will also be on hand to accept last minute wish lists before Christmas.
