Baseball has its Field of Dreams in Iowa and auto racing has its “Track of Dreams” in Carteret County North Carolina.
Bobby Watson would have been 70 years old this September 24th. His dream of a world-class speedway in East Carolina began in the go-kart racing world.
Watson was a premier promoter of go-kart racing and started his Carteret County Speedway dream of building a dirt go-kart track but always with the vision of a stock car facility second to none.
Watson’s dream became a reality on Labor Day 2015 when Carteret County Speedway held its first-ever event. In late 2018 Bobby Watson passed away leaving the racing world in shock.
Bobby’s close friend, Bob Lowery, vowed to keep the Dream alive and his first decision was to rename the track, “Bobby Watson’s Carteret County Speedway”!
As mentioned, Watson would have been 70 years old this September 24, 2022, and that is cause for a birthday racing celebration with the running of the Bobby Watson Memorial at 6 pm at Carteret County Speedway.
The Late Models, Mini Stocks, Street Stocks, Bombers, Legends, UCAR, Mini Cup, and Flathead Fords will all compete with the Late Models racing 100 laps. The race will include a special checkered flag and $200 bonus to the driver leading on the 70th lap to pay homage to Bobby Watson. Plus there’ll be fireworks!
Go-karts, where it all started for Bobby Watson, will be on display and there’ll be a special go-kart exhibition down the homestretch featuring veteran go-kart drivers. Eight divisions of cars will race in memory of Bobby Watson making this a must event to attend!
Carteret County Speedway will include the fans as well in the Bobby Watson Memorial Celebration. One lucky fan will be called per racing event, eight in all, to each win $70 just for being here.
Bobby Watson’s Carteret County Speedway and the Bobby Watson Memorial, the place to be September 24th at 6 pm. As always adults are just $15 dollars and kids 10 and under are free.
